A boiler tube leak can put an entire maintenance plan under pressure.
At PX Ltd’s Widmerpool Biomass Plant, an internal tube leak in the furnace required urgent access so that repair works could begin without delay. Alti Access responded as the on-site industrial scaffolding partner, arriving on site in under two hours, and erected and handed over the scaffold within eight hours.
The result was clear. The repair moved ahead quickly, the plant returned to service faster than expected, and the scaffold was dismantled and removed within 48 hours.
PX Ltd operates the Widmerpool Biomass Plant, a live industrial environment where maintenance activity must be delivered safely, efficiently and in line with programme demands.
In this setting, access is part of the work sequence. When a fault appears inside a boiler, the response needs to be fast, controlled and aligned with site safety requirements.
The client identified an internal boiler tube leak and required urgent scaffold access to support the repair.
The affected area was located at the very top of the boiler, which meant the access solution had to provide a safe working platform while also supporting a rapid response. As part of the site requirement, Alti Access needed to attend within a four-hour emergency call-out window.
Alongside the physical access challenge, the client also had to relocate labour and coordinate repair activity under time pressure. Any delay at the access stage would have added further pressure to the job.
Alti Access attended the site in under two hours from the emergency call-out.
After reviewing the location of the leak, the team proposed a full scaffold dancefloor to provide access at the top of the boiler. This gave the client a safe, practical and time-efficient platform for the repair team to carry out the work.
Because Alti Access already supports the site with planned outage, project and day-to-day industrial scaffolding work, the team understood the environment, the standards expected on site, and the need to move quickly while maintaining control.
The scaffold was erected and handed over within eight hours.
That speed gave the maintenance team the access they needed to move into the repair phase without losing valuable time. The structure supported the repair works safely, and once the job was complete, Alti Access dismantled and removed the scaffold in under 48 hours.
The outcome met the client’s objectives in full.
Key results included:
The client highlighted the value of Alti Access’s responsiveness, safety standards and quality of work.
“Plant back up and running in a quicker-than-expected timeframe. This was mostly down to the efficient service from Alti.”
“Customer service is second to none. The quality of work is excellent, health and safety are our priority, and Alti never disappoints.”
“I have confidence that all work will be completed on time to a high standard while adhering to all health and safety requirements.”

In biomass plants and other high-pressure industrial environments, urgent scaffold requirements sit directly on the critical path. The access partner on site needs to respond quickly, work safely and hand over a structure that supports the programme from the moment it is required.
This project shows how fast, safe and well-coordinated access support helps maintenance teams recover from critical plant issues under pressure.
